Testimonies: Overcoming a drinking problem – Part 2

as an alcoholic, which has more than 5 years of continuous sobriety, I can say that there is a simple way to overcome a problem of drinking. Drinking is a symptom of a deeper problem. The stories of what life was like before recovery are the stories of self-abuse and self-hatred.

recovery from a life of alcohol abuse is the commitment and willingness to change. The courts, rehabilitation centers, therapists of all eventually send their clients to AA. Why? Because it works. AA claims that the only change is everything, and it is essential for the detection of a remission of drinking.

The individual who is a victim of the drink has entered a vicious cycle of torture. Often taken in excess, to feel remorse, make promises in return, refrain for a limited period of time, and then further on a binge. Mental stress and abuse that arises on an individual is incomprehensible. A person with a drinking problem began to distance himself from his family, friends and work. Its consumption is a toll on all these aspects and, finally, left with nothing.

recovery as a person, making the admission that I can not do anything about drinking and my life is totally unmanageable, drinking, I am given the freedom of let go of the drink. Working AA program has given me the blessing that I never dreamed of achieving. Many families loose their homes, businesses – and often their lives. In recovery I won a wife, a daughter, a master's degree in education, a teaching with students of special education, and a life that is a center of opposition to the life I led for more than a dozen years.

reigns supreme gratitude in the person who has overcome a lifetime of consumption. However, this is a daily commitment to be a better person, to live an honest life, and accept that consumption is something that is not in my interest. Each day I pledge to be the best possible version of me. To be useful to others and serve my family, my community and humanity is the goal. In service to others, I'm cured within.
